Music: A Way to Create Beauty and Boost Creativity
Welcome to Julie's Piano and Voice Studio.  I have been teaching since 1991 and am also a staff accompanist at Ithaca college.  I hold a B.A Music Degree from Messiah College.  Take some time to familiarize yourself with my studio and approach to teaching.
My Background
Music has been a part of my life since IÂ was six years of age. Â I dedicated myself to the study of piano, voice, and flute and took private lessons. Â IÂ went on to earn a B.A. degree in Music from Messiah college in 1991. Â Since that time IÂ have been teaching privately out of my home studio. Â I also am a staff accompanist at Ithaca College.

What I Offer
Weekly Private Instruction in Piano and Voice
I operate with a sliding scale. Rates are anywhere from $18-22 per half hour based upon household income.
under $30,000 $18.00
$30,000-60,000 $20.00
Above $60,000 $22.00
I also make arrangements for bartering if you have a skill or product you would like to share with me.

Payment is due for all of the lessons in the month on the first lesson of that month. Payments that are consistently late will incur a late fee of 10%.
Notify me of any cancellations of lessons as soon as possible with a phone call or text. Payment for a cancelled lesson is still required if a 24 hour notice was not given, except in the case of emergencies or last minute sickness. I will offer you a make-up lesson during the same semester
provided I was notified 24 hours ahead of time. If you or your child are sick please call to cancel and I will still offer you a make-up lesson. I would rather teach a make-up lesson than be exposed to sickness so please keep this in mind.

Expectations
Regular practice time is required in order to be a part of my studio. At least 5 days a week is essential. Children will be given a practice book where they will need to keep track of their practice time and have it initialed by their parent. As a parent I need your commitment to check that your child is completing their assignments and practicing.
I encourage parents to permit their child to attend lessons by themselves to foster independence for the student. I find that my students can focus better if they are with me and not having to perform for their parents. I do however encourage parents to attend the lessons approximately once per month to check in. I will write all assignments in their lesson pad which will need to be purchased by the families. Please review with your child regularly.

What Will You Expect to Gain from Music Lessons
Music should be fun and I approach it in such a manner. Â I develop a relationship with my students so that they feel comfortable to try new things and explore what talents they have and need to develop. IÂ am open to suggestions about styles of music you or your child would wish to study, as part of this endeavor is also based on your particular interests. Â There is no one-fits-all approach to lessons.
